Australian adults experience a mental health condition in any given year. You are not alone, and effective treatment is available.

What is adult psychiatry?

Adult psychiatry is the branch of medicine focused on diagnosing, treating and managing mental health conditions in people aged 18 and over. Unlike general counselling, psychiatric care is delivered by a medical doctor with specialist training — combining psychological understanding with medical assessment, diagnosis and, where appropriate, medication management.

Conditions we support

Many patients experience more than one of these at once, which is why a thorough assessment looks at the whole picture rather than treating symptoms in isolation.

Mood disorders

Depression, bipolar disorder, and persistent low mood.

Anxiety disorders

Generalised anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, and health anxiety.

Trauma-related conditions

Including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

OCD

Obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Adult ADHD

Often diagnosed later in life after years of being misunderstood.

Personality difficulties

The assessment process

An initial psychiatric consultation is thorough by design, so your treatment plan is built on a complete picture — not just your presenting symptoms.

Medication management

Antidepressants, mood stabilisers, antipsychotics or other agents, carefully selected and monitored.

Psychotherapy referral

Working alongside psychologists using approaches such as CBT, DBT, or trauma-focused therapy.
